system status

From time to time we will update this page with notifications about our internal system status (e.g. if there are any issues with connectivity to our servers) and external systems (e.g. connectivity to Broadband).

If you have any questions about your connectivity to the Internet you should first seek advice from your Internet Service Provider (e.g. Xtra, Telecom Broadband, Orcon, TelstrClear etc) first before calling a technician.

Digiweb Mail Server

Digiweb in Christchurch are having technical difficulties with a mail server in their Christchurch data centre and this is effecting some Flatout customers' email service.  At this stage there is no ETA for the resumption of services and no explanation as to the reason for the outage.  Flatout is monitoring the situation and will advise via this website any updates as they are received.

The mail server appears to have returned to normal service, however no official reinstatement has been received yet, so service may be intermittent.

Telecom Broadband

After 3 days of technical troubleshooting with the Telecom Broadband specialists Broadband service to our office was not restored therefore alternative arrangements were made.  If you are having connectivity issues with your broadband connection through Telecom Broadband in the CBD of Invercargill we can advise that there are technicians working on equipement in the exchange and that this "may" be the reason for the interruptions although no one at Telecom is interesting in specifying this is the actual case.

We were advised that all of New Zealand was experiencing issues with Broadband so we made some calls to other ISP's and other technicians throughout New Zealand and found that there were no reported issues with Broadband or connectivity.

After several meetings with telco providers in Invercargill we have opted to sign with TelstrClear who have a new system coming online in approximately 1 weeks time. This network is independant of Telecom equipment and they have their own fibre back haul out of Invercargill. Whilst there are several other options for connecting to the internet in Invercargill most of these (if not all with the exception of telstrClear) utilise Telecom equipement or their pipeline out of Invercargill meaning that each is dependant on Telecom's network operating.

We are recommending that anyone wanting an independant option for telephone and internet services seriously consider TelstraClear. TelstraClear has their new VDSL broadband solution coming online shortly - VDSL is still going through testing and we'll update you as soon as we have a deployment date and (as reported by an independant technician) is extremely fast.
