Link Building

After reading our previous post, you should be getting the hang of SEO by now, so it's time for us to take a look at the next step: link building.

Link building can be a very powerful tool for boosting your search engine ranking. To put it simply, search engines work by sending their "spiders" through the "web" to find links that lead them to new pages. So the more links you have throughout the web, the easier it is for the spiders to find you, and the more likely your website is to end up in the search results.

And the spiders aren't the only ones looking for links. Potential customers are out there browsing the web, and the more backlinks you have, the more likely they are to find your website. Even better is if your link can be found on a high traffic website.

Link building is definitely a powerful technique. So powerful in fact, that many people abuse that power by using black-hat link building techniques such as link farming and hidden links. You may have noticed "link spamming" on forums or blog sites; while this may temporarily boost their search engine ranking, those search engine spiders are pretty clever and will quickly ban the sites in question. Not to mention, someone is about as likely to click on a "spam" link as they are to click on unwanted, dodgy "spam" mail in their inbox.

So the way to go with link building is to do it the old fashioned, honest, white-hat way. One of the best tools you can use is an article website such as EzineArticles.com, ArticleBase.com or GoArticles.com.

All you have to do is write informative, keyword-rich articles that include a link to your website at the bottom. These article websites are high traffic, and will in turn increase your website's SEO and clicks. If you're not the writing type, you can easily hire a ghostwriter to do it for you.

Another good link building technique is to strategically post comments on other blogs or websites, and include a link back to your own website. Just remember not to cross the line into spamming!

Link building can be a little more time consuming than other techniques, but just keep your eye on the prize: Increased business.

The next step is to include keyword-rich content on your website, which can also dramatically boost your SEO. We'll cover that in our next blog post, so until then, happy link building!
