Setting Up IMAP Email

Q: No emails are being saved to the Sent / Sent Items folder in Outlook 2013 - IMAP Account

When setting up an IMAP account in Outlook 2013 - in order to have all the folders come down the pipeline from a CPanel server you should look at this setting:

  1. Click the File button
  2. Hover over Accounts
  3. Click the large Account Settings button in the right pane ( another menu should appear with a button underneath labeled "Account Settings" - yes, you have to click Accounts Settings "twice" to get to account settings)
  4. Double left click on the IMAP account in the list that is displayed
  5. Near the bottom right of the Account Settings screen is a button labeled "More Settings" - click this
  6. If you haven't already been in here you should check the settings
e.g. Outgoing Email (If you  server requires authentication you can set this up in that tab)

Go to the "Advanced" tab and look for the section:
    Root Folder Path

Enter the word Inbox in the field provided and you should see your folders sync from the server.

  7. Click the "OK" button to close the More Settings window
  8. Click the "Next" button - Note: Outlook will perform a test of the account settings
  9. Click the "Close" button in the test window
  10. Click the "Finished" button to exit the Account Settings

In my experience, once this is done you may see some more folders appearing under your Inbox and when you send another test email (actually write one yourself) the messages will be saved to the Sent or Sent Items folder.
